Mali has a proud history of gold mining, and is the 3 rd largest producer of Gold in Africa (WGC 2018). 
Despite Mali’s history in Gold mining, Lithium and Spodumene was a new commodity and process for the mining and environmental authorities.

Digby Wells took on the responsibility of ensuring that the authorities understood and recognized the impacts associated with Lithium Mining

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline ( Project involves the construction and operation of an underground, cross border pipeline  to transport crude oil from the Lake Albert region in Uganda to a marine export terminal in Tanzania, near Tanga City Port This is one of the largest pipeline projects globally. 

  • Uganda 296 km long pipeline and traverses 10 districts and
  • Tanzania 1 147 km long pipeline and traverse 8 regions and 25 districts

Due to the magnitude of the project, Digby Wells joined with four 4 organizations to form the Digby Wells Consortium In July 2017 EACOP appointed the Digby Wells Consortium to undertake an independent RPF/RAP process on behalf of EACOP

The Exxaro Belfast project is geared toward benefiting its host community, creating roughly 6000 direct and indirect opportunities for employment during construction and throughout the Life of Mine, seeing almost 20 000 people benefiting.

Pivotal to the successful implementation of the Exxaro Belfast Project was the need to relocate some community homes and graves sites

Upon receiving Environmental Authorisation, Exxaro appointed Digby Wells to develop a Resettlement Action Plan and undertake a Burial Grounds and Graves Consultation Process.
